This fall Exodus and Fit For An Autopsy are thrashing their way on a USA assault as they co-headline with Darkest Hour and Undeath as the supporting acts. A special acknowledgment should go to Exodus this November and December for bringing along several younger, yet already quite prominent bands, thereby introducing their audience to the upcoming wave of heavy music. This is a fantastic initiative, and will play a crucial role for sustaining the vitality of the heavy metal genre.
It is an exciting time Exodus, after 18 years with Nuclear Blast, the band is currently in the process of crafting their inaugural album for Napalm Records. Guitarist Gary Holt in a recent Instagram posted, "Fully immersed in writing mode, vigorously generating riffs. Currently assembling the components for the opening track of our next album—set to be the most brutally crushing piece ever. I am genuinely thrilled. Very. WHY SO HEAVY."
Frontman Steve "Zetro" Souza also announced that they are actively engaged in the creation of a successor to their 2021 Persona Non Grata album. Revealed in a recent video on his YouTube channel, Souza mentioned their tentative recording schedule, aiming to commence in March or April of 2024, with expectations for the album to hit the shelves by September. Souza also shared plans to perform unreleased tracks from the upcoming album in live shows prior to its official release, which is something they have never done before.
Co-headlining on this tour is the deathcore band known as Fit For An Autopsy from Jersey City, who has been making a big waves ever since their album "Oh What The Future Holds"was released January of 2022. This sixth studio-release by Fit For An Autopsy was Number 2 on the Top 10 Heavy Metal Albums of 2022 on Orange County Music News. “Oh What The Future Holds” has beautifully-grotesque bass grooves and apocalyptic riffs that are super contagious.
In an interview with The Garza Podcast, Guitarist Pat Sheridan explored the development of deathcore as a genre, emphasizing the significance of opening the position as a major milestone in the genre's evolution. Pat Sheridan said, “I'm hoping that the genre thing starts getting wiped out a little bit because I really think that if somebody says 'oh they're in this -core or that metal,' it immediately puts a bad taste in your mouth. But all of these bands in our world are getting a look now from bigger bands and bands that get what we do. It's really cool.” This eerie band has been none-stop touring on some seriously big tours, bridging the gaps between the different kinds of heavy metal genre crossovers, alongside some big names like Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage, and Thy Art Is Murder.
Also on this tour is Darkest Hour, the American melodic death metal band from Washington, DC who formed in 1995 is making a resurgence. Drawing influences from hardcore, punk, thrash, and metalcore, the band recently signed with MNRK Heavy for their upcoming album. This marks their first release since 2017 and the debut of touring guitarist Nico Santora, following the departure of guitarist Michael Carrigan in 2020. Coming in hot yesterday, November 14th, and proving they still are a dominate force to be reckoned with, Darkest Hour dropped a bombshell with the release of the single “Perpetual Terminal” that is now streaming on the band’s YouTube channel & Spotify account.
Guitarist Mike Schleibaum had this to say about their new record “Perpetual Terminal” that is due out due out February 23rd, “The record's theme centers around the duality of 'survival while embracing rebirth. We keep killing parts of ourselves to make new parts and survive. The story of the record is the story of the band.” He continued on "We're still here, and we're giving the world a body of work that's representative of our music today. We've realized relationships, tours, good times, everything that seems to give life meaning, is terminal—and will inevitably end. Nevertheless, we're 46-year-old dudes who love this music enough to put up with the trials and tribulations of being artists in a touring band."
Knowing that the new record was tracked at Mix Wave studios in Bethesda MD, with Taylor Larson and Ernie Slenkovich, we are supper stocked, and look forward to watching Darkest Hour as the next chapter unfolds in front of us. Follow the band on all their streaming services, socials, & subscribe to their patreon the lasts news & pre orders.
Opening for this monstrous line-up is the fierce new-school death metal band that formed in 2019 from Rochester, New York, Undeath. The band swiftly attracted notice within the underground metal scene due to their aggressive and traditional approach to death metal. However, don’t let that fool you because Undeath doesn’t take themselves too seriously. A significant portion of their music appears to be somewhat tongue-in-cheek, amplifying the horrors of death while playfully mocking this taboo subject.
Undeath features guitarist and main lyricist Kyle Beam, vocalist Alexander Jones, drummer Matt Browning, guitarist Jared Welch, and bassist Tommy Wall. Releasing their debut album, "Lesions of a Different Kind," in 2020, and subsequently, the follow-up "It's Time...To Rise from the Grave" in 2022 both under Prosthetic Records, they've already garnered a dedicated following of fans. Even though Undeath is heavily influenced by East Coast death metal bands like Cannibal Corpse and Morbid Angel, these internet music nerds and overweight gamers definitely don't attempt to cultivate a mysterious aura around the band, as some other metal bands might. Their live performances exude a sense of collaborative celebration, with their main objective being to ensure that everyone has a fantastic time.
So put your metal fist in the air this fall and headbang to one heavy ass tour as Exodus, Fit For An Autopsy, Darkest Hour, & Undeath come shredding through a USA town near you! SoCal fans can catch the mayhem and destruction at the Anaheim House of Blues November 24th.
